Important DMD Information
Disciples Making Disciples (DMD) The process of following Christ, becoming like Christ and then repeating that process with another person.
We are all called to be a disciple. A true disciple is someone who is discipled by Christ and then makes other disciples. Notice Jesus’ last words to his disciples before he ascended: “Go, therefore, and MAKE DISCIPLES of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, teaching them to observe everything I have commanded you. And remember, I am with you always, to the end of the age.” (Mt 28:19-20)
In English, there are several verbs in that sentence: Go, make disciples, baptize, teach. But in Greek, there’s only one: “make disciples.” All the other words that modify the verb. To ‘Make disciples’ is the central command in Jesus’ Great Commission. Everything else–going, teaching, baptizing–is an extension of making disciples.
And yet, most Christians would admit, they have never been discipled. DMD – Disciples Making Disciples, will disciple you so that you can be a disciple that can disciple others.
Because discipleship is more than information, it is our hope that in this course, you will …
- Learn the Correct Beliefs of a Disciple. You will learn the basic truths of following Jesus.
- Develop the Necessary Skills of a Disciple. There are some basic skills that every disciple of Jesus needs to learn. These basic skills include: How to be filled with the Spirit, How to pray, How to study the bible, how to share your story, how to share the gospel, how to lead others to follow Jesus. You will learn those skills.
- Practice the Essential Habits of a Disciple. The skills that you learn must be put into practice. These skills become your lifestyle.
- Obtain the Proper Heart of a Disciple. It is our hope that you will begin to have the heart of Jesus and begin to live like Jesus lived.
Expectations of Disciples Making Disciples
1. This is a long-term commitment
Though this course will last about 5 months, but we expect you to carry on the process of making disciples. This is our calling for our lifetime.
2. You are expected to participate in weekly Meetings and assignments.
Each weekly meeting will last about 2 hours. We will be using the book Disciples Making Disciples and learn to be a growing disciple of Jesus Christ. The goal is not to cover material but live it out. We will not move forward with new material until you are seeking to practice what you have already learned.
3. There will be time commitments outside the weekly meetings.
You will have homework. You will need to practice a skill on your own outside of the meetings. There will be a few times when you will have the opportunity to share with others. Bottom line, it is not just a meeting. We are trying to develop a lifestyle.
4. There will be accountability and expectations.
Just like Jesus, taught, modeled and then assigned task to the original disciples, we will do that same. We will disciple you with love and grace but we need a real commitment to this process.
