Ministry Staff Short Biographies

Rev. Tony Walliser joined SBC as Associate Pastor/Minister of Education on April 2, 1995. He became Senior Pastor in April of 2000. He received a Bachelor of Arts in Biblical Studies from Criswell College in Dallas, Texas, and a Master of Divinity from Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary in Ft. Worth, Texas. Brother Tony was ordained in 1988 by Parkview Baptist Church in Arlington, Texas. Brother Tony & Susan with Luke, Philip, John and Rebekah came to us from First Baptist Church in Riverview, Florida.

Rev. Eddie Wilson joined SBC on October 8, 1989. He is Minister of Pastoral Care and Senior Adults. He received a Bachelor of Fine Arts in Music from Valdosta State in Georgia and a Master of Church Music from Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary in Ft. Worth, Texas. Brother Eddie was ordained to the Ministry in 1982 by First Baptist of Pelham, Georgia. Since coming to SBC, Brother Eddie has been blessed by his marriage to Mary Conry and with the birth of their son, Patrick.

Rev. Chuck Tanner joined SBC on February 16, 1992. He is Pastor of Missions and Single Adults. He received a Bachelor of Arts in Business Administration from Mercer University in Atlanta, Georgia, and a master's degree in Religious Education from Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary in Ft. Worth, Texas. In addition, he is a certified computer programmer. Brother Chuck & Jennifer with Megan, Jacob, and Joy came to us from Norwich Street Baptist Church in Brunswick, Georgia, where he was ordained in 1990.

Rev. Mark Habermas joined SBC on December 23, 2001 as Minister to Children. He received a Bachelor of Arts in Psychology/Christian Education from Bryan College in Dayton, Tennessee, and a master's degree in Religious Education from Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary in Ft. Worth, Texas. Brother Mark was ordained to the Ministry in 1994 by First Baptist Church, Ocala, Florida. Brother Mark and Lori along with Joel, Andrew, Matthew and Jared came to us from First Baptist Church, Callahan, Florida.

Rev. Steve Shoemaker joined SBC as Minister of Worship in August, 2003. Steve, Karen, Kristen, Kathleen and Kendall came to us from Hollywood Baptist Church in Rome, Georgia.  Steve & Karen have since been blessed with their fourth child, Kyle.

Rev. Ken McCoy is originally from Baton Rouge, Louisiana, graduating from William Carey College with a B.A. and from New Orleans Baptist Seminary with an M. Div. He has spent 22 years in local church ministry as Student Minister and Pastor. Most recently, he has worked in the Assisted Living Industry the past six years as a Licensed Administrator in Chattanooga. He most recently served as Regional Director of Operations for his company, overseeing properties in the Southeast. Because of his extensive experience in both of these areas, he brings a unique perspective to this much-needed staff position. Ken has been married to Roslyn McCoy for 29 years, and they have three children: Jonathan, Courtney and Kyle.

Rev. David Thompson joined SBC as Minister of Adults in January, 2007.  David and his wife, Kim (SBA Elementary Dean), come to us from Woodland Park Baptist Church, where David has been ministering since 1986. With a B.S. from Tennessee Temple University and an M.R.E. from Temple Baptist Theological Seminary, he has served in many roles in the church. He began as a volunteer youth leader, then College Ministry Director, moving into Associate Pastor of Discipleship, then of Student Ministries, of Pastoral Care, and of Connection Ministries. David & Kim have two children, Jordan & Julie, and a new son-in-law, Taylor.

Mr. Jack Johnson

Mrs. Sherre Carney began her ministry with SBC as Director of Preschool Ministries July 2, 2000. Sherre has a certificate degree from CSTCC and has previously worked in the area as an orthodontic assistant. She has volunteered in the nursery, preschool and children’s ministries as well as the women’s ministry of Silverdale Baptist Church since joining. Sherre and Chet have been members of Silverdale since June 1992. Sherre and her husband, Chet, have 3 children—Keith, Jacob and Kassidy.

Miss Courtney McCoy

Mrs. Becky Hansard joined SBC as Director of Children’s Ministries on August 7, 1995. In July of 2000, she became the Headmaster of Silverdale Baptist Academy. She has a bachelor's degree in Special Education from UTC and a master's degree in Administration and Supervision from Trevecca College in Nashville. Mrs. Hansard previously served as Special Education Teacher & Evaluator for 10 years at Ooltewah Middle School. “Miss Becky” has been a member of Silverdale Baptist Church since childhood. She is married to Rick Hansard and they have a son, Samuel.
