What is a Fellowship Group?

A fellowship group consists of 8-14 people from varying backgrounds (over 18 years of age).  Groups will meet together for an informal meal (potluck) in the home of one of its members.  The purpose is to share a meal while getting to know each other.  The groups will be made up of people with whom you might not normally associate (i.e., people from different Sunday school classes, varying age groups, and with varying interests).  Groups will meet once each month for a four-month period.  After four months, the groups will be rearranged so that you may meet even more people.

When will the groups meet?

Each group will decide on the best meeting time.  Some groups may decide to meet the same night each month or they might vary the meeting night from month to month.  Groups may choose to meet on any night of the week (including Sunday) that is acceptable to the group members.

What happens at a group meeting?

The group meetings will be very informal encouraging communication between the group members.  At the first meeting there will be some “get acquainted activities” to help members become comfortable with one another.  Every meeting will include a dinner to which each member will bring a dish.  After dinner members will be encouraged to get to know each other better through conversation and sharing.  No group member will be “put on the spot” and every effort will be made to make all members feel comfortable.

How do I sign up?

We typically have a Fellowship Groups booth in the Atrium.  There will be a short form to fill out and leave at the booth.   Following the sign-up period, the groups will be divided and assigned to a group facilitator.  Your group facilitator will contact you by phone to let you know of your group assignment.

How will I meet my group?

On a Sunday evening, there will be a “Get Acquainted” fellowship in the Gym.  At that time each group will meet and determine the time and location for their first meeting.  At the beginning of each four-month period there will be another “Get Acquainted” fellowship so that the new groups can meet each other and make plans.

What about childcare during meetings?

Each group will determine how childcare will be handled.  The church will not be able to provide childcare for the many groups that will be meeting.  However, a list of possible babysitters (and their phone numbers) will be available to those who need childcare.

What is a fellowship group facilitator?

Each group will have a group facilitator.  It will be the role of the facilitator to lead the discussions of the group.  The facilitator will encourage everyone to participate in the activities and discussions of the evening.  Most important the group facilitator will make sure that no one feels “left out”.  The facilitator will also make sure the meeting is scheduled and that all members know when and where the group will meet next.  If you would like to be a group facilitator, there will be a place on the enlistment form for you to indicate your willingness to serve in this way.
